Bulkley River Lodge: Smithers B.C.

  • 7 Nights / 6 Days - $9000

The Location:

Located on the banks of one of North America’s most productive steelhead fisheries, the Bulkley River Lodge provides anglers with a variety of fishing environments and conditions as well as an unparelleled lodge experience. The two and a half month fishing season at the Bulkley River Lodge runs from late August to early November, providing guests with weather ranging from short sleeves and sun. To snow, gloves, and layers.

The Lodge & Accommodations:

The lodge is located about 20 miles outside of Smithers, British Columbia and around 140 miles from the coast so the fish are guaranteed to be fresh and full of life. The lodge is situated on the banks of a remote section of the river allowing for unrivaled privacy and access.

There are four cabins on the lodge property, in addition to the main lodge, the drying room, and the guide quarters. Each of the guest cabins is designed for double occupancy, allowing for a total of 8 guests per week. Each cabin is equipped with wireless internet access, a full size bathroom, and a spacious front porch with a front row view of the river. Inside the main lodge you will find the dining area as well as a cozy lounge where appetizers are served after guests return from fishing

The Fishery:

The fish in the Bulkley are some of the most aggressive steelhead around. It is not uncommon to land fish on skated dry flies early in the season and as the temperatures drop anglers typically transition to sink tips and larger flies.

No matter your fly preference, the fish of the Bulkley are more willing to investigate and eat a variety of flies, unlike the fish in many other locations. Many of the anglers who visit the Bulkley utilize two-handed spey rods to cover more ground and reach those fish just out of single handed casting distance. Whether you’re an experienced spey caster or a newcomer to the two-handed approach, the guides of the Bulkley River will have you swinging flies to hungry fish in no time at all.

A typical day of fishing begins bright and early with coffee and breakfast. Guests will then make their way to the dry room where wet gear is stored after a day on the water. Depending on which section of the river you will be fishing, anglers will meet their guides on the front lawn and head out on jet boats docked at the property. Anglers will be also shuttled to rafts or jet boats located a short drive from the lodge. In between fishing runs guests will enjoy scenic sections of the river, as well as encounters with the diverse wildlife of British Columbia. Guides are limited to two anglers per boat and most of the fishing is done by foot.
